Sitting in the waiting room of my doctor’s surgery, I noticed a warning up on the wall, advising mothers not to risk buying cheap baby seats online. There have been a number of instances where some overseas models have malfunctioned on impact as well as not complying with our Australian standards. The article was asking why risk something so precious in the aim of saving money. Online shopping is a big part of our shopping culture, a number of industries have seen buyers coming back to shore as a result of inferior products. It may be a little cliché however reality is we all know we get what we pay for.
Unfortunately in recent years we have had a number of albums coming to us for repair, that are only 5-10 years old, these are a combination of albums from local and offshore manufactures using inferior materials. At face value these albums appear to be of a similar standard however the materials used are far from similar, in fact they are not even of archival quality and will not preserve the photos for long term presentation. Photographic papers used have been stored in uncontrolled environments and are out of date, this will result in two significant and noticeable factors; new photographic paper has a brilliant bright white appearance, whereas out of date paper, old or poorly stored papers present as off white or a flat white. The other identifiable element of inferior paper is a form of discoloration around the outer edges of the print and over time this could increase in severity.
We recently had an album given to us for repair and re-covering by Chris Hall Photography. Chris has had a successful studio for over thirty years and in that time has consistently designed gorgeous albums for his clients and their families to treasure. The high standard of both work and reputation to which any photographer would aspire, the Chris Hall brand and experience speaks for itself. This album was 12 years old and was not covered under a lifetime warranty from its original manufacturer. Whilst Chris Hall now uses Photo Mounts as his exclusive supplier of wedding albums, this was not the case in the past.
Chris was happy to share this with everyone to see just how important it is to make sure you are receiving a good quality album from your Photographer. Photo Mounts & Albums offer a Lifetime Warranty on all our albums.
“We always have a do it once do it well motto, not only is our reputation riding on it but any good business man will tell you, saving a little now can be very costly later! The time and expense in repairing a precious album is high.
So we always use who we think can give us the most beautiful product from the best materials and then let those albums act as a showcase for our studio. We used a renowned album designer in Melbourne who created some very special designs just for us and we paid extra for higher end material. Our award winning images in beautiful and different albums is very good for our business.
It was then a surprise to me that when we took this album back to the manufacturer that they said ‘sorry we have sold the business to someone else and are not interested in fixing their album’ needless to say we just repaired them for the clients free of charge and we now use Photo Mounts exclusively because our clients deserve the very latest in materials design but also in after sales service.
After 32 years as a premium photographer having shot weddings in 8 countries and with 4 Fellowships, we are starting to get wedding enquiries from the children of wedding we photographed, we can’t afford to let anyone down.
Can You?

The album has been stored in its presentation box for the last 12 years, and in this time the cover has deteriorated and become shiny and sticky, to the point that it can’t be touched without black cover material sticking to your hands. The cover is literally falling off in your hands.
Whilst we are fortunately able to repair this album for our client we would like to share with you the importance of buying Australian Made albums using quality materials, supporting your local manufacturers and the value of a Lifetime Guarantee on your wedding albums.
Australia and New Zealand have a proud history of not only producing some of the best photographers in the world, but also producing some of the best album manufacturers in the world too. Our supply partners are all recognized in their professions and produce excellent archival photographic materials. Whilst we try to keep ours costs to a level that is befitting with the quality we produce and what the market can withstand, when compared to offshore companies the price can be initially perceived to be high. All of our albums come with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty; all prints that we put into our albums are from respected and recognized printers across Australia.
Important note to Photographers: if you are looking to save dollars, the key to improving your bottom line is to improve productivity, not to sacrifice the quality of a product you are giving to your client.
Important note to Brides to be: when chatting with prospective photographers, please ask if your album is Australian made and if you will have a lifetime warranty on your album. Our wedding album becomes a very precious item, creating our legacy and documenting our part of history for generations to come. Our children and our grandchildren will be able to look through this album and treasure it, as it tells the story of that special day in history for your family.
